This third-person shooter has both PvE (player versus environment) and PvP (player versus player) modes. Players take on the role of the Tenno, a race of powerful warriors that are extremely skilled with weapons and have access to unique combat armor known as Warframes.
Warframe launched almost four years ago. It first came out on PC. Not long after its launch the game became one of the first F2P (free to play) titles available on the PS4. After the game had success on both PC and Playstation 4 it was finally released on the Xbox One in 2014. While it's not a new game, Warframe is still an excellent choice for anyone that wants to play a great shooter.
The PvE portion of the game is quite robust. There are countless missions where you'll use your Tenno character to combat with enemy forces and complete objectives. Players are walked through quests by a special being referred to as the Lotus. This guy teaches you how to play the game correctly, tells you what you need to do during your missions, shows you how to master your Tenno's abilities, and loads more.
Don't care for deep story lines and fighting against AI enemies? Well, poo on you. No, but seriously, it's all good - there's an awesome player versus player segment in Warframe that you'll likely enjoy. Whether you like to go lone-wolf and rack up kills or work as a unit with a dedicated team - Warframe offers game modes that will satisfy your blood-lust and competitiveness in PvP. If you're looking for a game that'll allow you to really express yourself through cosmetic apperance - Warframe will definitely wet your appetite. You can personalize your Tenno quite a bit. Players can choose from a number of guns and melee weapons, use mods to improve performance or have passive abilities, and, of course, deck out their character in awesome-looking armor.
There's no doubt about it, Warframe is a truly unique and awesome third-person shooter. The "campaign" mode is a blast to play and will actually keep you interested with its sci-fi themed story. The competitive modes (PvP) are fun, too, despite having a few flaws. Warframe Guide on Twitter.
Most of the popular FPS titles don't give you half as much content or variety as Warframe. The game features more weapons than most other shooters and, unlike other titles, it actually allows you to personalize your warrior. Plus, it's completely free to download and play. Even if it doesn't sound completely awesome - download it and give it a shot, you might be surprised.
Warframe was created by Digital Extremes, a development team with a pretty impressive background. DE hails from the great land of Canada. They've been around since the early '90s. They worked together with Epic Games to create the Unreal FPS series. They also created the popular Dark Sector game that was available on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC platforms.
Warframe can be downloaded from the Xbox Live Marketplace, Playstation Store, Steam, or the official website. Yes, Warframe does have microtransactions, but don't worry, they're only for cosmetic items and random other items. This is NOT a pay-to-win game. In order to purchase any in-game items you'll have to get some Platinum - an in-game currency. The cost of platinum varies quite a bit. Large Platinum purchases come with special bonuses, too. The game offers players several different ways to buy Platinum.
